The prettiest golf club North of 60

2011 Year End Review

With the 2012 golf year fast approaching, it’s obviously a little late to be writing the year in review for 2011! This, unfortunately, is how much of my season as president went, being behind all year, and is why I have decided not to run as president again this year.

I would like to thank the executive, our staff at the club house & grounds for their continued hard work in ensuring Hay River Golf Club is the North’s best golf experience.

Last year was a productive year, with the completion of many jobs including driving range netting, cart paths & parking, continued brushing, added fire pits to the campgrounds, improvements to the club house, new flooring, stained the exterior, and finally the completion of our finest attraction on the course, the pond & fountain.

Again, last year was a near perfect golfing season, what with great weather, limited bugs, increased tournaments, and most of this can be attributed to the management of the golf course (sorry Jeff you’re not God, you were lucky with the weather)! As well, new grounds manager Frank Hirst did a fantastic job, we’ve seen little improvements all year long, with all rental carts & equipment getting a full service, clean up  around the shop and grounds to getting acquainted with the sprinkler system and green needs, certainly a great 1st year, my vote for Rookie of the year!! (Frank, it’s been awhile since you’ve been called a rookie!)

I still believe there’s plenty of work to go around and would welcome all members to provide their input as to what they want to see, or what can be improved. Our tournaments are still down, and I think the reality really is the added competition from Ft. Simpson, Ft. Smith getting their artificial greens, and YK getting more competitive pricing to fly south and golf. That being said, I feel it’s our responsibility to continue to look forward to new and exciting ways to encourage our neighbours to come to the Prettiest Golf Course in the North!

Our sponsors have continued to support this course, through in-kind, cash, prizes & other donations; we thank you and hope that we can continue to seek your support. I encourage all our members to show our appreciation to our sponsors by choosing to shop local.

To conclude, I encourage ALL our members and non members to attend the AGM March 11th, 2012 @ 11:00 a.m. at the Ptarmigan Inn Boardroom downstairs.

Thank you to all our Sponsors, members & to our executive.

Greg Rowe, President
