The President’s Year End Review

Hay River enjoyed one of our best golfing seasons, that most can remember, the almost
perfect growing season, and NO BUGS!! With a strong volunteer base we seen more
improvements to the course then we have in a number of years. As always Hay River Golf
Club received generous donation in kind, cash & prize throughout the season, from our
sponsors, which all lead to a very successful golf year!!

It’s been a year since I took over as President; the transition for me was certainly eased by
having a strong executive & past President close by! In the year we seen an increase in
participates in most of our tournaments and certainly in hosting events, i.e. NWTAC, Start
Your Engines, DeBeers golf tournament returned all were very positive. I believe we own allot
of our success to having a full time manager. Jeff Brockway was promoted to General
Manager from club house manager from the previous year. Jeff’s enthusiasm and
commitment to the club has made this year a success.

Over the year there were a number of course improvements most notably, the pond! With
the very charitable donation from the Hay River Elks & Rowes Construction, and our
volunteer base lead by Jason Coakwell we now have a pond (with water)! I’m looking forward
to the installation of the fountain, aerator next season this will truly be a beautiful feature.
Work has started on a couple of new tee boxes, new cart paths, some much needed brushing
on the course & the resurrection of the sand bunker (sorry Dallas)! . The club purchased a
new mower & also new screen for the driving range, which will be installed at the start of
next season.

This year also seen the returns of the Men’s & Ladies commercial league take
sponsorship/ownership of a hole. This created a whole new competition amongst the teams,
with some teams taking on some very ambitious projects. Another highlight was our year
end awards banquet; and amazing pig roast (thank you to Dale!) & great comedian show was
a great way to conclude what I felt was a remarkable season of golf!

To conclude I would like invite you all to check out our new website, another improvement
made possible this year by our executive (thanks Gary). I encourage our members to attend
the AGM Nov 28 @ 11:00 am at the Ptarmigan Inn Board room down stairs.

Thank you to all our Sponsors, members & to our executive.
Greg Rowe, President
